Why Trafficking Prevention Matters Every Day
Every July we celebrate freedom out loud. For the people still trapped in trafficking, freedom is still something we’re fighting to give them.
This Freedom Month, it’s easy to let the flags, faith, family, community, patriotism, and fireworks stand in for the whole idea of freedom. But for the men, women, and children still trapped in trafficking, freedom isn’t a holiday that comes and goes. It is something that is missing, unattainable, taken. It is a reality that Rescue 1 is still fighting to change. To help us get the word out -from today right up through World Day Against Trafficking on July 30th- here’s information to share, post, talk about, and research yourself:
Facts worth sharing
- Tennessee’s 2024 trafficking hotline logged 428 signals and identified 446 victims — 55 of them minors.
- Nationally, NCMEC’s CyberTipline received 21.3 million reports of suspected online child exploitation in 2025 alone — up from 20.5 million the year before.
- TBI’s own data shows 514 reports of minor sex trafficking in Tennessee in 2024 — more than double the number of adult sex trafficking reports that year.
- Across Tennessee and its bordering states, more than 3,200 trafficking victims were identified in 2024 hotline data combined.
What prevention actually stops
Prevention is the quietest part of anti-trafficking work, and it’s also where trafficking is stopped before it starts. It looks like training a hotel front-desk team to recognize the signs of a room being used for exploitation. It looks like teaching a coach or a youth pastor what grooming looks like before it becomes something worse.
Why this is a whole-community effort
Rescue 1 Global’s prevention work runs through our Task Force Network, training partnerships, and community education — but it only scales as far as the people willing to carry it into their own circles: their church, their business, their neighborhood.
